Nutraceuticals are food, or parts of food, that provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. It includes Dietary Supplements including botanicals, Functional Foods and Medicinal Foods. Nutraceuticals may be a naturally nutrient-rich or medicinally active food or it may be a specific component of a food, such as the omega-3 fish oil that can be derived from salmon and other cold-water fish. Nutraceuticals are specially treated food rich in vitamin, mineral, protein etc. used for improving health. It is used for the prevention of diseases. It is also known as functional foods which will reduce the risk of chronic diseases and provide health benefit. Nutraceuticals plays major roles in immune status and susceptibility to some disease and exhibits disease modifying indication related to oxidative stress including allergy, Alzheimer disease, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, eye conditions, Parkinson diseases and obesity Nutraceuticals are mainly categorized in dietary supplements, functional food, medicinal food, farmaceuticals. Farmceuticals are medicinal components derived from modified agricultural crops and animals. These are having drug like properties.
