Endoscopic sub mucosal dissection (ESD) originated from Japan in 1990s and it has become the common practice and method to treat early gastrointestinal cancer. However, this method fails to find its popularity among various countries in the world due to the fact that it is difficult to be operated on the part of the doctors and it is highly risky with serious complications. The drawbacks of the conventional Japanese ESD include long time operation, high complications incurrence and long learning curve for the doctors, making it less popular among the world and hence Zhang Method with Zhang Knife has emerged. The highlight of Zhang Knife lies in its high flexibility in terms of direction, length and hardness of knife head during the operation and the superiority of Zhang Method is that the operation could be conducted without using the transparent hood, less haemostasis during the procedure and a broader view due to the long-distance operation. Therefore, based on our clinical research, Zhang Method turns out to be more effective, much easier, safer and less time-consuming.
