Abstract:

Statement of the Problem: Cardiac abnormalities are among the most frequent congenital anomalies at birth and are defined as structural alterations of the heart or intrathoracic vessels in the different anatomical forms. Onethird of those affected at present with critical cardiac malformations, defined as those requiring propaedeutics and immediate therapy or leading to death in the first year of life.

Objective: The objective of this study is to describe the epidemiological profile of children with congenital heart disease treated at the outpatient clinic of the Dr. Miguel Riet Correa Jr. University Hospital in the city of Rio Grande, Southern Brazil.

Methodology & Theoretical Orientation: A cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study was carried out with quantitative analysis from medical records of patients aged 0 to 15 years from December 2017 to December 2018. Data is collected from patient charts from the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS) attended at the Dr. Miguel Riet Correa Jr. University Hospital in the Medical Archive and Statistics Service (SAME), through an instrument previously prepared by the researchers containing information on age, gender, socioeconomic characteristics, cardiological antecedents among others.

Findings: A total of 409 patients with congenital heart disease were included in the study and the association between the parameters is in progress.

Conclusion & Significance: It is intended to establish relationship that may contribute to the development of best practices in outpatient care for patients with congenital heart disease.

Biography :

Flavia Saraçol Vignol has completed her Medical Degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande, Brazil in 2000; a Pediatric Residency from March 2001 to February 2003 and a Pediatric Cardiology Residency from March 2003 to February 2005 and pursued Master's degree in Health Sciences in 2016. She is a PhD student in Health Sciences, developing projects on Congenital Heart Diseases. She has been working as a Pediatric Cardiologist since 2006 and works at the Dr. Miguel Riet Correa Jr. University Hospital in Rio Grande-RS since 2011. She has experience in the Pediatric Clinic with emphasis on Maternal and Child Health, working mainly on the following topics: General Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Diseases. She works as a preceptor at the FURG University Hospital's residency program. She has experience in preventive medicine where she worked for three years; lectures on well-being and quality of life.
