Abstract:

Jordan as one of the Arab States stands at a crossroad between maintaining and building on what has been achieved and reforming what requires change within the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sexual and reproductive health (SRH), FP and HIV AIDS fall at the heart of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), but many challenges create obstacles for the integration of available services. The international community aims to ensure universal access to SRH services to reduce maternal mortality ratio, improve the provision of FP services and information and integrate the SRH into national and regional strategies, policies and programs. All of which fall under the UHC umbrella which would promote greater coverage, inclusiveness, quality of services and financial protection. As part of a regional project, the aim of this study was to comprehensively assess the potential of integrating SRH services within primary health care (PHC) in Jordan. The study reviewed and assessed SRH/FP and HIV AIDs legislations, policies, programs and services since 2010. Data was collected using a regionally developed instrument based on the international literature. The tool had sections related to Jordan health system in general and to the SRH indicators, programs, and services. The findings including were discussed with relevant stakeholders and feedback was considered. The study provides recommendations for the strategies, policies and programmatic actions needed for the integration of SRH/FP and HIV AIDS services within HPC with the aim of achieving UHC.
