Chronic diseases are long-term medical conditions that are generally progressive. Some examples of chronic diseases include heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and chronic respiratory problems (e.g. COPD). At present, these are the major cause of disability and death globally. Chronic diseases are also the major cause of premature adult deaths in many parts of the World. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost half of all chronic disease deaths occur in people under the age of 70.
