Abstract:

Connective tissue diseases (CTDs) are a broad range of autoimmune conditions, often with multi-system involvement. They often present with prominent skin manifestations, ranging from the most common and most subtle presentations to the most severe and life threatening cutaneous emergencies. The most common being lupus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma and Sjogren’s syndrome. They are primarily managed by rheumatologists; however, dermatologists are often consulted to help reaching a specific diagnosis, and in managing the cutaneous complications. In this lecture, we will review the characteristic signs of connective tissue diseases as well as their catastrophic cutaneous manifestations. Also, the latest update in the management of cutaneous manifestations of CTDs, and the risk of malignancy development in CTDs will be discussed
