Abstract:

Chronic ulcers  represent a serious health problem with a great impact on the patients' quality of life. Autologous plateletrich plasma (PRP) is a simple, cost-effective and minimal invasive treatment that provides fibrin and growth factors which play a major role in the process of wound healing.  Five patients with recalcitrant leg ulcers of different etiologies have been treated weekly in 5 to 7 sessions with PRP intralesional injections.  All of them showed rapidly reduction in ulcerations size and a complete healing within 9 weeks. The results highlight the potential efficacy and safety of autologous PRP in the treatment of refractory leg ulcerations. Larger studies are required to validate PRP and to establish adequate protocols of this upcoming popular treatment
