Biography

Dr. Magesh?s research interests include the study of climate change and its impact on land use and water resources. His research involves coupling the climate models with high-resolution field data to explore the physical, chemical, and ecological processes in complex river basin system. Presently, he is focussing on the Influence of land use and climate on regional hydrology and groundwater quality in Tamiraparani basin, South India using geospatial technology and downscaled climate models-IPCC.

Research Interest

My research over the past six years has been focused on different aspects of Environmental GIS and solving various environmental problems through GIS solutions. Example: groundwater quality mapping, seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers and evaluating groundwater potential zones using automated models within GIS. Apart from that, significant metal pollutants in estuarine sediments were mapped and its potential sources have been identified including the risk zones. Moreover, I have generated a marine GIS expert system for mapping the beach placer minerals in the coastal stretch between Tuticorin and Vembar (South east coast of India). My core area of research is in the field of watershed management in Tamiraparani basin. Presently, I am engaged with climate change studies at basin level which include the effect of climate change on landuse and groundwater resources.
