Maurits van den Noort

Biography

Maurits received his MA-degree (with distinction) in Social Psychology (2000) and his MA-degree (with distinction) in Neuro- & Rehabilitation Psychology (2001) from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In 2002 and 2003, he worked as a language researcher (predoc-level) on a project on the role of working memory in second language acquisition at the department of linguistics of the Radboud University Nijmegen. From 2004 ? 2007, Maurits conducted his PhD research on working memory capacity and foreign language acquisition at the University of Bergen in Norway. He received his PhD-degree in Psychology in 2007 and he finished ongoing research as a Research Fellow (postdoc-level) in 2008. He worked part-time as a Research Fellow (postdoc-level) from September 2008 until November 2014 at the department of linguistics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on the project: ?An fMRI-project on the relation between working memory capacity and first and second language capacity of children with a different language background?. In 2009, he started working as a Visiting (Assistant)-Professor (non-tenure track) in the field of neuroimaging (Research Group of Pain and Neuroscience, Department of Oriental Medicine, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, Republic of Korea) with both teaching and research duties. In September 2010, he was offered and accepted a regular professorship (tenure-track) position at Kyung Hee University (Seoul, Republic of Korea) and this position is ongoing. In Korea, Maurits received several distinctions and financial awards for his scientific publications in leading journals such as Science, The Lancet, etc. Moreover, he worked on a dyslexia project as a Visiting Researcher from October 15th until December 15th 2010 (on a Harvard Visiting Scholar Program) at Harvard Graduate School of Education (Cambridge, MA, USA) and the collaboration with Harvard University is still ongoing. Finally, in May 2015 (until April 2018), Maurits started working, in addition to his Korean position, as a part-time Visiting Professor at the department of linguistics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel with a special focus on foreign language learning and education.
