Irina Ivanova, is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. She received both the medical degree and Ph.D. at the Medical University of Varna. After completing her general internal disease and gastroenterology residences, Dr.Ivanova became a consulting physician in University Hospital ?St.Marina?, Varna. She is a nationally recognized gastroenterologist and researcher on chronic viral hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. She has been studying the assessment of liver fibrosis by morphometry and by non-invasive tests from 2002 and has been participating in many multicentre clinical trials on treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. For the last 1 year, she has started to work on a research projects related to early diagnosis and staging of hepatocellular carcinoma and the clinical role of vitamin D deficiency. Her clinical interest focuses also on contrast enhanced abdominal ultrasound. Dr.Ivanova is a member of Bulgarian Association for the Study of Liver (BASL) and European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB).
