Biography

Dr. David Liu is an Associate Professor at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy, Spokane, Washington, U.S.A. He received his Ph.D. from the City University of New York, New York, in 1997, and had his postdoctoral training in mammalian cell cycle regulation in Dr. Michele Pagano?s laboratory at New York University, New York, New York, from 1997-1998 and in neuronal differentiation and survival regulation in Dr. Lloyd Greene?s laboratory at Columbia University, New York, New York, from 1998-2002. Before Washington State University, he was a Research Associate at Columbia University from 2002-2006 and an Assistant Professor at Penn State University from 2006-2013. Dr. Liu?s research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanism that controls cell proliferation, differentiation and survival. Currently, his laboratory is focused on the regulation and function of ATF5 and its interaction with multiple molecular pathways that control cell cycle progression, microtubule cytoskeleton organization, cell survival and cellular stress response. ATF5 is an understudied molecule that is known to regulate cell proliferation, survival, differentiation, and cell fate determination, with unknown mechanism.

Research Interest

Dr. Liu?s expertise is in signal transduction and molecular basis of several human diseases including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, cancer biology and cancer therapy, neuronal differentiation and survival.
