Biography

Dr. Christopher Oakes, PhD., is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio, USA. He has appointments in the College of Medicine Division of Hematology and the Department of Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Oakes is the head of a new independent laboratory that investigates epigenomics and genetics of leukemia, with a focus on lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He has extensive experience in the generation and analysis of high-throughput epigenetic and molecular profiling data, as well as with the investigation of molecular and functional biology. His current research focuses on investigating the role of epigenetics in hematological malignancies, with a primary focus on understanding the evolution and impact of epigenetic programming on the cancer cell phenotype. He is interested in the developmental origins of epigenetic programming in lymphoid and myeloid malignancies and aim to uncover the ontogeny of disease development. Clinical applications of disease stratification, drug response prediction and novel therapeutic targets are current avenues of exploration.
