    The pancreas develops from two buds that emerge from the duodenum of the foregut, an embryonic tube that serves as a predecessor to the gastrointestinal system. It is endodermal in origin. The creation of a dorsal and ventral pancreatic bud is the first step in pancreatic development. The endoderm gives rise to the pancreas and other gastrointestinal organs.
