Conference aims
Patient safety should be foremost in the minds of everyone involved in patient care. Despite its importance preventable patient harm is very common but poorly understood. The only way to improve the situation is to understand why mistakes happen, design better systems and teach the basics of safer care. The goal must be to promote a culture of safety in health care.
This conference brings together experts in patient safety and those who wish to learn. It is divided into four main areas each occupying half a day. These are:

• Regulatory and legal aspects – Roger Hall
• Learning and training: teaching patient safety – Allen Hutchinson
The aim of this conference is to provide a forum to
