This group of cancers arises around the ampulla of Vater, which includes the duodenum, distal common bile duct, and the ampulla itself. Patients with these types of cancer frequently present with obstructive jaundice, resulting from the blockage of the common bile duct. In such cases, pancreatoduodenectomy is often utilized to resect the tumor and alleviate the obstruction, thereby improving the quality of life for the patient.
