Dr. Aikaterini Kotrotsou is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). Dr. Kotrotsou has about 10 years of experience in advanced quantitative imaging analysis, biomarker development, clinical/preclinical imaging genomics, radiomics, and big data in brain tumors and neurological diseases. Author of multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, she has presented her work in multiple national and international conferences, educational workshops, and she has reviewed several scientific articles and reviews. Dr. Kotrotsou completed her BSc in Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences in 2004 from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Later, she completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2009 from Illinois Institute of Technology, USA. As a PhD candidate, she was actively involved into identifying imaging biomarkers for neurodegenerative pathologies by combining postmortem MRI with histology. She was the first to publish on the relationship between postmortem and in-vivo human MR imaging, followed by a detailed analysis on the macrostructural signatures of Alzheimer?s pathology and hippocampal sclerosis. Following this, Dr. Kotrotsou joined MDACC for her postdoctoral training and she is currently the lead imaging scientist at the Imaging, Genomics and Therapeutics Lab. Her current research focuses on development of image techniques for genomic target discovery, and developing imaging genomic predictive models/biomarker signatures using numerous computational and functional analysis biostatistical models. She was recognized as the Junior Fellow from the ISMRM in 2017. She received the ?Cornelius G. Dyke Memorial Award? in 2017 for her work ?"Multi-Center Study Finds Postoperative Residual Non-Enhancing Component of Glioblastoma as a New Determinant of Patient Outcome". Dr. Kotrotsou has received numerous awards for her work in the field, including ISMRM summa cum laude (twice), ISMRM magna cum laude (twice), the ASNR outstanding award in functional Neuroradiology, and the MD Anderson outstanding research award. She was recently awarded the Lupe C. Garcia Fellowship for outstanding contribution in cancer research. Dr. Kotrotsou?s long-term goal is to make significant contributions in the field of precision medicine and develop new imaging biomarkers that can non-invasively predict the genomic profile of cancer patients and guide therapy.

Research Interest

Medical Imaging, Neuroimaging, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computer Tomography (CT), Image processing techniques, Pattern Recognition, Imaging biomarkers development, Clinical/Preclinical imaging genomics, Radiomics, and Big Data. Emphasis on reconstruction, analysis (e.g. segmentation, texture analysis, motion tracking) especially for the diagnosis and monitoring of brain tumors and neurological disease. Proven track record of success designing and implementing novel imaging/post-processing techniques, with high publication record, over thirty scientific and educational talks.
