High-risk pregnancy refers to a situation in which the health of the mother or fetus requires closer observation due to the presence of certain medical or obstetric conditions. These pregnancies may arise from factors such as advanced maternal age, chronic health conditions, multiple gestation or complications in previous pregnancies. Early identification of such risks allows healthcare providers to design a structured care plan that ensures continuous monitoring and timely intervention throughout the pregnancy period. Initial assessment begins with a detailed evaluation of medical history and baseline investigations. This includes screening for hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disorders and infections that may influence pregnancy outcomes. Regular antenatal visits are essential for tracking maternal health and fetal development. Monitoring blood pressure is particularly important as hypertensive disorders can develop during pregnancy and may lead to complications if not addressed promptly.
