Abstract

Evaluation of Healthcare Services during Childbirth in Jordan Using Evidence- based World Health Organization 2018 Guidelines

Alaa AL-hasanat

Aim: The aims of the study were to evaluate the childbirth health care services provided at two hospitals located at south of Jordan (Ma’an Government
Hospital and AL karak Government Hospital), To become a reference for researchers, decision-makers and health professionals, it gives a clear picture of the health services provided during childbirth.
Method: Cross- sectional study, observational evaluation in the obstetric department of hospitals Al-karak and Ma án, in south of Jordan ,using guideline World Health organization (WHO),2018 checklist ,during the period between 1-July to October ,2020,include all woman at normal vaginal delivery(301)to each hospital, By using SPSS version 21,p-value(<0.05) was considered as the significance level.
Result: A total of 301 women were observed during labor and birth. A range of interventions were observed in women having a normal labor including
augmentation (96%), continuous fetal heart rate monitoring (100%),skin to skin (50%),and more than one third (38%) had an episiotomy.
Some practices did not show any improvements, such as family planning discussed and hand-washing before wear gloves, routine oral or nose
neonatal suction
Conclusion: Childbirth practices were largely not in accordance with the World Health Organization evidence-based practices for normal birth,
2018. An intervention based on repeated hospitals visits combined with actions at the level of decision makers can lead to substantial improvements
in quality of childbirth practices at both hospitals.
Further work needs to occur to explore the reasons why evidence-based practice is not implemented in these hospitals.
