Abstract

Folic acid deficiency in new born babies leads to autism

Motherâ??s milk or breast milk of human is the primary source of nutrition for the new born containing protein, fats, carbohydrate, vitamins and variable minerals. Breast milk is loaded with antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria, which is critical in those tender, early months. Folic acid is the vitamin B which is synthetic that does not occur naturally in human body. Early during pregnancy when the baby is developing, folic acids helps form the neural tube and prevent some major birth defects of the new born, taking folic acid before and during pregnancy could reduce the chance that the baby will have autism. Folic acid is crucial for the early fetal development and it can be taken from the fortified food and the dietary supplement. Folic acid helps the human body to produce and maintain the new cells and prevents changes to DNA that may leads to cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the folic acid content in the human breast milk or motherâ??s milk, five different sample from different mothers are collected and the Gas chromatography â??Mass spectrometry (GCMS) analysis was carried out to identify the active compound in the motherâ??s milk and Liquid chromatography-Mass spectrometry (LCMS) analysis was carried out to find the  folic acid compound anti-oxidant assays such as DPPHâ?¢ radical, ABTSâ?¢+ radical cation, phosphomolybdenum reduction, and Fe3+ reducing power assays were carried out for evaluating antioxidant activities. Hence we can increase the folic acid content in motherâ??s milk through daily intake of dietary supplements which are rich in folic content to overcome the deficiency so that the babies will grow healthier and free from inborn diseases.
